The explosion took place in the south of the capital near the Ring Road, casualties were reported.
Radio Sham FM said the explosion, which was heard all over Damascus, was a "terrorist act," targeting an Assad military point.
Assad militia men were seen near the location, they closed the Zahra, Kafr Sousa and al-Mazza roads.
Syrian activists said that the explosion was engineered and orchestrated by the Assad regime and its intelligence services in a continuation of fighting terrorism scenario and propaganda.
The Assad regime and its allies established complete control over the capital Damascus after the most brutal campaign which targeted the opposition fighters in eastern Ghouta.
Thousands of locals were either killed or injured or displaced before the Assad regime and the Russians established their control over the Ghouta in spring last year.
