Speaking at a press conference in Ankara after the ceasefire deal was agreed, Abu Zeid said the ceasefire will include all of Syria and will start Thursday at midnight. He added that the deal does not impose conditions or exclude any areas or any opposition fighting groups in Syria from the ceasefire but indicated the deal does not include the PKK-affiliated YPG Kurdish militia.
He further explained that the talks were held with Russia only as a guarantor of the Assad regime and pro-Assad foreign militias. He said there were no talks or meetings with representatives for Iran or the Assad regime and insisted that Assad would have no place in the future of Syria.
Abu Zeid revealed the deal includes five points:
1. Opposition agrees to participate in negotiations to find a political solution within one month if the ceasefire is implemented successfully.
2. The two negotiating sides will work to find a solution to the situation in Syria.
3. The negotiations will be brokered by the guarantor countries, Turkey and Russia.
4. A mechanism for implementing the ceasefire.
5. The political process will be built on the first Geneva Communiqué of 2012 and the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254.
Abu Zeid stressed that the aim of the deal was to create a better reality and improve humanitarian conditions for all Syrians, especially after the failure of the international community and the United Nations to provide any assistance to stop the massacres against the Syrian people.
At the end of the press conference, Abu Zeid stressed that the FSA will abide by the ceasefire but will retaliate if the regime or pro-regime foreign militias breached the agreement.
