German FM: Military solution in Syria will pave way for more fighting

Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Monday that seeking a military solution to Syria’s conflict will only pave the way for years of more fighting, AP reported.

Steinmeier said – before talks involving the US, Russia and regional powers expected Thursday in Munich – that it’s important to calm fighting in Syria, enable humanitarian access and so reopen the door for negotiations between the Assad regime and opposition in Geneva.

He added that it’s a "difficult task, but I think the current situation should show everyone that anyone who counts on a military solution will experience five years more war."
