Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he felt satisfaction after the talks held on Thursday in Sochi with his Qatari counterpart, Mohamed Abdulrahman Al-Thani, with whom he evaluated the situation in Syria, Prensa Latina reported.

Lavrov stated to the press that they discussed the need to comply with the agreements aimed at achieving a political solution to the conflict.

According to the sources, during the first official visit to Russia of Al-Thani the parties emphasized the search for a settlement to the Syrian conflict, the situation in Yemen, Libya and other Middle Eastern countries.

For his part, the emir called ’fundamental’ the role of Russia in global stability, and insisted that his country wishes to strengthen ties with Moscow to seek jointly solutions to problems that destabilize the Middle East.

We hope that our friends in Russia will play a great role in solving the disaster of the Syrian population, this tragedy, and in achieving a political settlement, reiterated the leader of Qatar.

Gulf Times reported that Al-Thani stressed the need for concerted efforts to put an end to the crimes committed by the regime against civilians which amounts to war crimes, and said the perpetrators must be held accountable.
