HNC requests assurances for implementing US-Russia Syria truce

The High Negotiations committee (HNC) has requested assurances for the implementation of the US-Russian Syria truce which will come into effect on Monday at 7 pm.   

The spokesperson of the HNC, Dr. Salem al-Meslet, said members of the committee want to know guarantees and mechanisms of implementing this truce.

We want to know what is the classification adopted of "terrorism" and the response to violations of the deal, al-Meslet said adding that these questions have to be directed to the US, the broker of the truce.    

When he was asked about the HNC’s response, he said,"the response of the HNC to this deal depends on the deliberations between the basic components and the groups of the Free Syrian Army (FSA). It is very important for us to see all parties abiding by this deal, especially the signatories," he said.    

"Are Russia and Assad regime going to commit to this truce, halt their crimes and abstain from any hostilities?" he asked.

US-Russia Syria truce is due to begin at sundown, though there are doubts over its viability following the unprecedented escalation of Assad regime’s airstrikes in on Saturday which resulted in tens of civilian deaths in Idlib, Aleppo and Damascus eastern countryside.
