Car bomb attack on Egypt police kills 8 in Sinai
Seven Egyptian police men and a civilian were killed Monday in Sinai Peninsula after a car bomb hit a security checkpoint, AFP reported citing Egypt’s ministry of interior.

Assailants tried driving a vehicle packed with explosives into a checkpoint, but police fired on it, stopping it before it reached the post, the ministry said.

The assailants also fired rocket propelled grenades (RPG)s at the checkpoint in the North Sinai city of al-Arish.

Eight people were also wounded in the attack, state newspaper al-Ahram reported on its website.

Policemen who returned fire on the assailants and killed five of them.

The Egyptian branch of ISIS in the Sinai Peninsula has carried out several such attacks over the past two years.

In November, a car bomb attack on a checkpoint in Sinai killed eight soldiers.
