Opposition adviser speaks of Russian guarantees in Astana
The second day of talks arranged by Russia and Turkey in Astana between opposition and Assad regime starts on Tuesday amid talks of decisive hours to come.

Osama Abu Zeid, the opposition legal adviser, spoke exclusively to Orient News saying that the opposition did not receive any document about a political transfer of power in Syria.

“Monday talks basically focused on implementing the ceasefire on the ground,” Abu Zeid said.

“We wait for the ceasefire to be implemented. We received Russian guarantees concerning the halting of the ceasefire. If these guarantees were enforced, we would make a media statement."

Expanding the talks for another day is associated with Kazakhstan, the state hosting the meeting, he has said.

When Orient News correspondent asked him about the Tuesday agenda, he said “Tuesday talks would discuss on Tuesday appointing a mechanism for ceasefire in Syria, opening humanitarian corridors to deliver aid to Assad-besieged areas. Releasing detainees, especially women in Assad regime’s detention centers and breaking Assad regime’s siege laid on Syrian cities and towns.

As co-organizers of the Astana talks and guarantors of the ceasefire, Russia and Turkey are in the spotlight. If they are unable to bring about real humanitarian progress on the ground, the suffering of millions of Syrians will continue, Syrians say.
