A Syrian journalist working for Aleppo Today TV Channel has been seriously wounded after he was shot in the head on Sunday by a masked attacker in Degirmicem neighborhood in the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep, Orient correspondent said.
The attack was caught on a security camera and showed the assailant approaching Zaher al-Sherqat, 36, from behind and escaping after shooting at him, running away in the same destination he had come from after the attack.
Al-Sherqat, a native of al-Bab city in Aleppo countryside, was quickly rushed to the nearest hospital. He is still in critical condition.
Police are investigating footage of the incident, which was recorded by a security camera of a nearby grocery store, Hurriyet Daily News reported.
Similar incidents have occurred in Turkish cities close to the Syrian border in the past six months. Syrian film maker Naji Jerf was assassinated in Gaziantep. Also, Syrian journalists Ibrahim Abdelkader and Fares Hamadi were killed. They were found decapitated in a house in Sanlıurfa in southern Turkey.
