Leading figures in Assad ranks continue to deliver vital military installations to the Russians, who are now in full control of all the joints of military matters in the country, the last of these concessions is Astamo air base for helicopters in Jabla countryside which was captured by Russian troops days ago.
Informed sources told Orient Net that Assad terrorists were evacuated from this base several months ago because of its tactical and operational importance for the Russians, and their urgent need for the deployment of the helicopters.
Due to its importance, Russia deployed a squadron of combat helicopters, which was stationed in the military Hmeimim Airport which was seized by Russian troops late last year.
The hovercraft deployed by Russia in Astamo base include models of several of MI24, MI35, MI28, MI52 and KAMOF and were deployed at this airbase because of Russia’s desire to decrease the number of hovercraft combats in Hmeimim base, which is packed with a lot of military planes, military transport and insurance, as well as hovercrafts.
Astamo base for the helicopters was essentially a battalion of tanks belonging to one of the ground forces in the coast, located north of Hmeimim Airport about 9 kilometers.
It did not occur to many that this battalion could one day become an air base for helicopters.
