Syrian High Negotiations Committee (HNC) on Wednesday called on UN’s Security Council to hold an extraordinary session to discuss the situation in Syria’s besieged city of Aleppo. The HNC demanded the siege on Aleppo to be lifted, the protection of civilians, and the protection of medical institutions from indiscriminate aerial bombardment.
The General Coordinator of the HNC, Riyad Hijab, requested in a statement, which Orient Net obtained a copy of, to hold a UN Security Council extraordinary session in order to discuss the situation in Aleppo.
Hijab, in a letter sent to UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, called on member states to protect civilians by taking tangible measures to stop the indiscriminate air strikes across Syria, and putting an end to the deliberate targeting of medical institutions and staff.
Hijab appealed to the UN to break the siege laid by Assad forces on many Syrian areas with Aleppo on the top of the list. He called for guaranteeing the consistent delivery of humanitarian aid to Aleppo and to all besieged areas in Syria, highlighting the need to end the issue of "getting away without punishment" by holding accountable those who were responsible for war crimes.
Meanwhile, the National Council of Aleppo City, declared the state of emergency after Assad terrorists have completely besieged the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo.
Assad terrorists and allied sectarian militias have laid a complete siege on the opposition-held neighborhoods of Aleppo. More than 300,000 people have become under a crippling siege, since there are no land roads to link the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo with is countryside. This intensifies the humanitarian crisis and leads to shortages in the basic life needs like food supplies and medicine.
