Moscow waits ratification to deploy permanent troops in Syria

Konstantin Kosachov, head of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Assembly of Russia, said on Tuesday that the assembly will consider the decision of deploying Russian troops in Syria permanently, if the State Duma ratifies it.
Russian media outlets, including Russia Today, reported the intention of the Russian assembly to deploy permanent troops in Syria.
Kosachov said that if the State Duma ratifies the instrument next Friday, the Committee for Foreign Affairs will be ready to consider the decision during the meeting of the assembly on October 10. The decision then would be submitted to be considered at a general session of the assembly on the 12 of the same month.
Russian army declared earlier starting military maneuvers in the Mediterranean in order to test the capability of its fleet in responding to crises of “terrorist nature”.
Russia announced its intention to expand Hmeimim’s military air base, west of Syria, and transform it to a fully-integrated air base, in addition to creating suitable conditions to enable Russian troops from staying in it permanently.
