PKK-affiliated YPG rejects Syrian safe zone controlled by Turkey
The PKK-affiliated PYD/SDF/YPG has militia rejected any safe zone could be established and controlled by Turkey in the north of Syria, according to the foreign relations official in the group, Aldar Khalil.

During an interview made by Hawar news agency, Khalil said the safe zones in the north of Syria were discussed but we have to know which party is the menace and who will protect the other.

"If the safe zone was to establish security in the north of Syria against the Turkish threats, then we could say there is a right policy in the north of Syria, but if they mean the opposite, then the discussion will be different"

Turkey's Erdogan said he discussed setting up a safe zone in Syria with his US counterpart Trump on Tuesday (January 15).

My friends and I were saddened by some messages released through the personal social media account of Mr. (Donald) Trump. We had immediately stepped into action and we discussed these matters with him once again on the phone. It was a very positive conversation, Erdoagn said

"The safe zone issue, including a safe zone along Turkey's borders that will be formed by us - an issue that I have brought up since the Obama era - was reiterated by him as 20 miles and that is a safe zone which is over 30 kilometres."

All of our concerning officials can talk and make assessments about this matter (safe zone) and I am positive about this matter. We could work on this and even extend it beyond 20 miles, he added.
