US military convoys patrol in Syria's northeast near Turkish border

US forces were seen patrolling and carrying out reconnaissance missions in Syria's northeastern tip on Tuesday (November 5) near energy fields, Arab 24 news agency reported.

President Donald Trump announced on Oct. 6 that US forces would withdraw from northeastern Syria, where the United States had allied with the SDF to oust ISIS forces, paving the way for a Turkish offensive against Kurdish militia forces in the area.

US forces were spotted on the ground in late October and several times in early November in the region. On Monday (November 4) they were patrolling in the town of al-Malikiyah.

On Tuesday (November 5), Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that US forces were still conducting joint patrols with the Kurdish YPG militia in Syria in the border region that Ankara and Washington had agreed to clear of the militant group.
